  1. Fionas mental health get more and more serious and Fiona and Marcus's relationship is given a hard test; Marcus finds her lying on the floor, and blaming her for not taking care of him. He makes her cry. He doesn't realize how bad her "condition" already is, but I think its too late. Fiona tries to commit suicide. Marcus takes a lot of responsibility and he suddenly becomes the oldest twelve year old in the world. I think the author is trying to tell us that Fiona's actions has consequenses for Marcus. He suddenly has to be the responsible and adult one. I also think Marcus is damaged after the sucide attempt, and that he is worried about their future. A boy at his age shouldn't have to take so much responsibility.

  2. Marcus is an insecure boy, we already know that. I think the author plays a bit on just that insecure to create a serious imotion. Marcus gets even more insecure when he's mother tries to commit suicide. He gets unsecure on their future witch is quite normal when Fiona is the only one Marcus have in his life (exept from Will, who isn't he's family). Marcus is left with imotions who are bad, he is left with feeling alone, let down and he thinks about the day that he killed a duck and the day he's mother tried to kill herself. He starts thinking about that he have to take care of his mother cause she's not well. Too serious thoughts for a twelwe year old. But after this Marcus starts turning up at Will's apartment and they develop a closer relationship.

  3. When Marcus is in the park with Will and Suzie his mother tries to commit suicide by taking to many pills. When they come home from the park, they find Fiona lying on the couch with puke all over the floor. At first Marcus wants to think that she just got sick, but after a wile he knows that it is not that easy. Suzie screams at Fiona that she is selfish to do this because she has a child.
I think that this makes Marcus relationship with Fiona much harder, because he feels betrayed. It is really hard for him to see his mother like this. Marcus is a very insecure boy, and that this happens to his mother does not make it easier. I think that the author creates a serious and a bit scary emotion in this scene, and when I read it I can feel what Marcus feels. I am very sorry for him.
Anyway, because of this happening Marcus get closer to Will who is trying to make him feel better. This scene starts a new relationship between Marcus and Will.

  4. Marcus's mother, Fiona, tries to take her own life through the story we are reading. She tries, using pills as cause. Eventually, she desides not to. Marcus tries to help his mothers mental health, but it can be too much for a twelve-year-old to handle.

I think Nick Hornby (the author of the book) tries to get the reader more into the book by creating a situation which affects the rest of the main characters. Marcus seeks help in Will, Will uses Marcus to his own needs, Marcus helps his mother.

I think Nick Hornby with cause created this scene, to make his book more exiting and better to read.

  5. the author try to make a sort of sad and complex situation. Marcus mum have depresjon problems, shes got problems with mood swingings and goes from sad to happy and happy to sad in a blink of an eye. This make us think about the situation Marcus has to deal with, it makes monotonous mood, and you feal sorry for both Marcus and hes mother.
    The whole situation

Marcus is stuck in a quite mess, the kids bullies him, and hes mothes have enough problems with taking care of her self. But Will is a good friend of Marcus, a grown upp man, but hes very young in hes head, childish and playfull. Marcus is a very grown upp child, and will the childy adult.

I think that the autor shows the situation Marcus is in, in a good way, and describes whats happening in a way tahts make it very realistik.
